The 2014 spring turkey season is right around the corner.
Yes the birds are still flocked up and aren’t gobbling much but that doesn’t
mean you cannot get out there and scout the flocks on the properties that you
are able to hunt. This time of the year all the birds are flocked up with each
other. Therefore right now is one of the best times of the year to get out
there and check out what type of birds you have in each flock and also to see
how many birds there are to hunt in the next couple months. It will also be a
perfect time to scope out the bigger gobblers that you would want to try and
hunt and down and kill in this year’s spring turkey season. Scouting the birds
now will be easier than in April because all of the birds go into the big open
fields later in the evenings and earlier in the mornings to feed. This will
give you and clear view of what type of birds are on your property. Also it
will be easy to see the different sizes between the birds because the snowy
background will help with your vision. These scouting opportunities will help you
decide what two birds you would rather shoot during the spring season. This is
good because you will be able to shoot the bigger and more mature gobblers
instead of shooting a gobbler that hasn’t grown to his full potential yet. When
you do kill the bigger gobblers you will be able to brag to all of your friends
that you shot the biggest gobbler out there. So instead of sitting on the couch
thinking about shooting giant gobblers, go out there and decide what gobblers
you will be shooting in this up coming spring.
