Shot Testing (Y1)

The New York State turkey season is almost a month away. Yes I know I have already written a article about turkey season. However I am going to give you avid turkey hunters some tips on patterning your gun.  Every hunter out there as missed a bird here and there. And everyone wants to blame it on their equipment right away when in fact it might just be you. So before you blame your equipment right away, take a couple hours to take some shots with the gun you will be using.  Instead of using the natural sight on your gun you can purchase a new red dot scope and mount it on your gun. This red dot scope will make your gun easier to aim. When you shoot your gun for practice you should also shoot different bullets just to see which bullet has the tighter pattern up to 40 or 50 yards. The other thing you can also do to help your gun shoot tighter groups is buy shooting through different chokes. Your chokes will give your gun a tighter grouping or a more spread out pattern depending on the choke you put on the end of your gun. When you practice shooting I would purchase the peel away targets. These targets will allow you to see what bee bees hit the head and neck of the turkey by changing color. I would also recommend sitting in the same position while practicing that you will be sitting in when you are about to shoot that big gobbler. After practicing and checking these different things on your gun you will see that it shoots tighter groups that will be more efficient when it comes down to when it actually counts. These are the things that I usually check every year before May first rolls around.
